I never know when someone is gonna walk through the shops doors and become a big part of life.
In December of 2024, Julias mom was in town visiting and they wanted to get matching tattoos.
Having excellent taste and unending intelligence, they called on us at Art and Sol to see if we had time for them. They came in, and made themselves right at home.
We talked art and life and all the things in between. It was quick but Julia mentioned that she had always wanted a career in art and that tattooing had been on her radar.
She showed up not long after with a handwritten note for me, expressing her interest and want to build a life of her own in the art space.
If you know me, I’m a big softie when it comes to hand written anything. So, obviously she is still with us and has started tattooing clients just this spring (’26).
We did a little interview so you can get to know her better, book some time with her and see why we couldn’t miss the opportunity to add her to the Art and Sol Family.

The Art and Sol : A Deep Dive
Artist Feature: Julia Latimer
Everyone has that one moment where they realized a “normal” life wasn’t going to cut it. What was the first thing you saw—or the first win you had—that made you realize you belonged in a creative environment?
Julia: “My first real ‘win’ was back in high school. I started drawing on people during lunch or in class, and it just took off. People started asking me for custom drawings and paintings, and I actually started selling my work right there at school. I knew I belonged in this world the moment I realized people genuinely wanted what I had to create.”
If someone sees your work from across a room, how do they know it’s yours? What defines a Julia Latimer piece?
Julia: “I’m still in that phase of discovery where I don’t think there is just one thing that defines my work yet. I’m focused on the versatility—making sure the quality is there across the board rather than being boxed into just one look.”
What’s actually happening at your station when you’re “in the zone”? What’s the energy like?
Julia: “If I’m picking the soundtrack, it’s classical opera. It sets a specific tone for the work. I’m naturally a talker—I love connecting with whoever is in my chair. I have a habit of always asking my clients what their favorite color is; it’s a small way to start a conversation and get to know the person behind the tattoo.”
We talk a lot about going above and beyond. When did you realize this was more than just a job to you?
Julia: “I realized it when I actually started enjoying the drive into work. The people I work with here are more than just co-workers to me; they’ve become family. It’s that sense of belonging that makes the long sessions worth it.”
We’ve all hit a wall where a project isn’t clicking. When you hit that wall, what’s your move?
Julia: “When things seem to be hitting a wall, I usually confide in David. We talk over the situation at hand, and from there, I can usually figure out the best solution. Having that support system makes it easier to navigate the tough spots.”
You have a sudden hour of downtime and the shop is clean. What is your immediate “go-to” move?
Julia: “I usually catch up with the other artists to see if they need anything. If everyone is set and the shop is running smooth, I just get back to drawing.”
To you, what is the “X-factor” that makes Art and Sol feel like a second home?
Julia: “Besides the fact that we run an incredibly clean shop, it’s the people. Knowing that if anything happens, I can call David or Justin and they’ve got my back—that’s what makes it feel like home.”
What are you currently working on mastering, both in and out of the shop?
Julia: “Right now, I’m focused on the balance. I’m learning how to juggle two jobs and provide for myself without burning out or losing my sense of self in the process.”
What do you do when you aren’t at the shop?
Julia: “When I’m not at the tattoo shop, I’m usually at my other job. And if I’m not there, you can find me at home with my cat.”
